Its now 60 years since Queen Elizabeth the II was coronated
as the Queen of England. The Queen and royal family attended service of
celebration to mark 60 years since Queen Elizabeth was crowned. She was joined
by the Duke of Edinburgh Charles and Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
and her children and grandchildren.
For the anniversary service, Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, gave a reading that took as its theme the Orwellian idea that freedom is slavery. However, a new poem titled ‘The Crown’ by Ann Duffy, the poet laureate, was rendered at the service.
At the end of the service, the bell of the Westminster Abbey rang out as the Queen and the Duke are driven in their glass-topped limousine to head back to Buckingham Palace.
