This story caught my attention about a month ago. It’s about
the appointment and swearing in of the first Black (female) minister in Italy.
I specifically admire the courage and strong will of the Republic
of Congo Democratic born minister turned Italian citizen, Cecilia Kwenge, who
was named Integration Minister by Prime Minister Enrico Letta on April 27, 2013.
Another story has emerged after the appointment of the black
minister. The people of Italy as decided to pour out barrage of racist and sexist
insult on the minister, the only black minister out of the seven women in the
new government.
The 49-year old black Italian minister who does not give any
regard to the racism insult flying about in the country responded saying; she
believes hostile attitudes stem mainly from ignorance. She further said “I am not ‘coloured’ I’m black it is
important to say that, I emphasis proudly”.

Quoting her more she said
“We need to breakdown these walls. If you don’t know someone, scepticism increases,
discrimination increases, immigration is richness, differences are a resource”.
The minister has received buckets full of
taunts from websites that called her different names like “Zulu”, “Congolese
monkey” and the black anti-Italian.
When I thought racism has begun to wear-off globally, an
European Parliament member of the Northern League also insulted the black minister,
he said “Kyenge would make a good house-wife but not a minister” (no wonder
the fight for gender equalization).
Kyenge plans to push for legislation opposed by the league
that would allow children born in italy to immigrant parents to be given
automatic citizenship instead of waiting till they are 18-year old.
